Therapy attendance letter

Therapy attendance letter: what it is, what it includes and how to request it

A therapy attendance letter confirms that you're in therapy and the dates you attended your sessions. At dafne, your US-licensed therapist issues it as part of your therapy, as long as you let us know before your sessions begin.

What is a therapy attendance letter?

A therapy attendance letter is a short document issued by your therapist. It confirms that you're their client, that you attend therapy and the dates of your sessions. It doesn't describe what you talk about in therapy, and it isn't a psychological evaluation.

What it includes and what it doesn't

Includes

  • Your attendance at therapy.
  • Your treatment dates.

Does not include

  • The content of your sessions.
  • A psychological or forensic evaluation.
  • Legal advice.
  • An opinion about your case.

Who issues it

The letter is issued by your therapist, who is licensed in the state where you live, as part of your therapy. That's why you need to be in therapy with dafne first. Your therapist can only confirm what they know firsthand: that you attend your sessions and on which dates. It's a document from your therapist, not a third party, and it reflects your actual therapy.

How to request it

When you sign up with dafne, we ask whether you'll need a therapy attendance letter. If you tell us yes, your therapist issues it as part of your therapy. There are no separate steps: just let us know you need it when you start.

Attendance letter or psychological evaluation

Therapy attendance letter

  • Issued by your therapist as part of your therapy.
  • Confirms your attendance and session dates.
  • Requires you to be in therapy.

Psychological evaluation

  • Done by an evaluator, in a process separate from therapy.
  • Assesses your psychological state with tests and interviews.
  • Doesn't require you to be in therapy.

Therapy and evaluation are separate roles. dafne provides therapy, not psychological evaluations.

Frequently asked questions

Does the letter say what I talk about in therapy?

No. The letter only confirms that you attend therapy and the dates of your sessions. What you talk about with your therapist is confidential and doesn't appear in the document.

Does dafne do psychological evaluations?

No. dafne offers individual therapy. A therapy attendance letter isn't a psychological evaluation and doesn't replace one. They're separate roles, and our therapists focus on therapy.

Does the letter guarantee anything in my case?

No. The letter doesn't guarantee any outcome. It only confirms your attendance at therapy and your session dates. If you have legal questions, talk to your lawyer.

Do I need to be a dafne client?

Yes. Your therapist can only issue a letter for the sessions they have with you, so you need to be in therapy with dafne. Let us know when you sign up that you'll need one.
