A space for you

Many women carry everything at once: work, home, children, a partner, parents and, sometimes, the family that stayed behind in their home country. They get used to being there for everyone and leave what they feel for later. Therapy is time just for you, to talk without being judged, understand what's happening to you and think about what you need.

Topics you can work on in therapy

Carrying it all

Family, work and caring for others, all at the same time, until there's no energy left for you.

Pregnancy and after birth

The changes, doubts and emotions that can come with a baby, before and after they're born.

Life changes and menopause

Children leaving home, a body that's changing, a new stage that brings questions about who you are.

Self-esteem and the pressure to be strong

Feeling you always have to handle everything, with no permission to get tired or ask for help.

Relationships and separation

What you feel in your relationship or after a separation, in an individual space, just for you.

Living far from your family

Missing your people, missing important dates and feeling your life is split between two places.

Anxiety, depression and grief

Worry that won't go away, sadness that weighs on you or a hard loss. Learn about therapy for anxiety, therapy for depression and grief counseling.

When to seek help

How therapy can help

In therapy you have a safe place to talk about what you usually keep to yourself. Your therapist listens without judging and helps you understand what you feel, set boundaries, take care of yourself without guilt and make decisions with more clarity. You don't have to arrive with everything figured out or know where to begin: you can start with what weighs on you most today. All in your language, with someone who understands where you come from, and at your own pace.

They meet that state's professional and ethical requirements and answer to its licensing board. As part of your therapy, they can also issue an attendance letter if you need one. Just let us know when you start therapy.

FAQ about therapy for women

Will my therapist be a woman?

We can't guarantee it. At dafne we match you with a therapist based on the state where you live and your language, so they're licensed where you are and can understand you. What matters most is that you feel comfortable talking.

Is a male or female psychologist better?

There's no single answer. What matters most is that you feel comfortable and heard, and that your therapist is licensed in your state. If at any point you feel the connection isn't right, you can talk about it with your therapist.

Can I talk about my relationship if I come alone?

Yes. In individual therapy you can talk about your relationship, what you feel and what you want, even if your partner doesn't take part. For now, dafne offers individual therapy for adults only.

Can you help me after giving birth?

Yes. After giving birth you may feel exhaustion, sadness, worry or emotions you didn't expect, and talking about them in therapy can help. Talk to your doctor about how you feel too. If you have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby, get help right away: call or text 988. For support in Spanish, call 988 and press 2, or text AYUDA to 988. If you're in immediate danger, call 911.

Do I need health insurance?

No. At dafne you pay directly, without health insurance. You can choose a single session or a package of sessions and start without waiting for approvals, copays or deductibles.
