What does an online psychologist do?
An online psychologist listens to you, helps you understand what you feel and works with you to manage difficult emotions, thoughts and situations. It's the same as in an office, but remote. At dafne, your sessions are virtual, in Spanish and with a professional licensed in your state.
Who will help you
All our clinicians hold an active license issued by a US state that allows them to provide therapy in the state where the client lives. The license type depends on the state and the therapist: it may be, for example, a psychologist, clinical social worker or professional counselor license. What matters is that your therapist is authorized to see you where you live and speaks your language. Our Spanish-speaking online psychologists understand where you come from, so if you're looking for a psychologist for Latinos or for immigrants, here you can tell your story in your own words.
Why a US license matters
A US-licensed professional is authorized by your state to provide therapy, not just support or advice. They answer to that state's licensing board and follow its ethical standards. As part of your therapy, they can also issue an attendance letter if you need one. Just let us know when you start therapy.
| US-licensed therapist | Professional licensed abroad | |
|---|---|---|
| License issued by a US state | Yes | No |
| Can provide therapy in your state | Yes | Usually offered as support or coaching |
| Can issue a therapy attendance letter | Yes, if you ask before you start | May not be valid in the US |

A format that works for you.
Virtual sessions let you talk from wherever you have privacy, with no commute and no waiting room.
Clear payment.

Do you relate to any of this?
You don't need a diagnosis to talk to a psychologist. It's enough to feel that something is weighing on you.

FAQ about online psychologists
Is a psychologist the same as a therapist?
Not exactly. "Therapist" is a general term for anyone who provides therapy. A psychologist is one kind of therapist, but licensed clinical social workers and counselors also provide therapy. What matters is that they are licensed in your state.
Can I choose my psychologist?
We match you with a therapist based on the state where you live and your language, so they are licensed to see you and you can talk naturally. We can't guarantee a specific person, but we do make sure your therapist meets those requirements.
Do I need health insurance?
No. At dafne you pay directly, without health insurance. You can choose a single session or a package of sessions and start without waiting for approvals, copays or deductibles.
Do you see minors?
No. dafne offers individual therapy for adults (18+) only. If you're looking for support for a minor, speak with their doctor or your local mental health services.
Can the psychologist prescribe medication?
No. Our therapists provide therapy but do not prescribe medication. If your therapist thinks medication could help, they will suggest you talk to a doctor or psychiatrist, who can prescribe it.
